MERCI

The MERCI project (Media and Event production via Resilient Communication on IoT Infrastructure) develops innovative solutions for private 5G networks based on or complemented by the ETSI DECT-2020 NR standard. This is done by cooperatively integrating the media and events sector, content manufacturing/production to audience distribution with the (industrial) IoT sector. It is well known that both application sectors have similar interests and needs for communication technology and infrastructure. They can coexist or even be used together in certain scenarios.

Mission

One envisioned scenario is the production of event content (including audio and video) based on nomadic DECT-2020 NR devices that are advantageously integrated with the DECT-2020 NR IoT infrastructure such as lighting or HVAC systems of a venue or location (e.g., sports arena, conference center, theater, studio). This also enables other integrations such as ambience (room temperature, wind, fog), stage automation and lighting effects for immersive experiences.

Expected Impact

DECT-2020 NR is internationally recognized by ITU-R as the IMT-2020 (5G) standard for URLLC and mMTC, while enabling reliable broadband communications.
As an open ETSI standard living the 5G/6G vision, DECT-2020 NR can be one of the key innovation drivers for more economic and technological sovereignty in Europe. DECT-2020 NR enables 5G private networks to become possible for everyone, even in dense deployments without business difficulties and economic burdens, so that they can truly contribute to productivity gains through industry-driven, flexible implementation of value-added and sustainable solutions. The MERCI project aims to make a decisive contribution here.
